"Accademia do Ritmo Afroeira" was born in Bologna in 1997, by the idea of the percussionist Paolo Caruso who, after a long trip to Latin America, tried to import in Italy the musical philosophy of those countries. Based especially on the model of Brazilian "escola de samba", which are composed of thousands of musicians and dancers, Afroeira wants to recreate mostly that atmosphere, that feeling. Percussions, colours, music and dance are the ingredients of the first "rhythm academy" in Bologna. Started from less than 10 percussionists, now Afroeira counts more than 40 elements that every week play together Samba - Batucada and others Afro - Brazilian rhythms.

 

 

THE SCHOOL

"Accademia do Ritmo" means over all "school": every week we meet to play traditional instruments and rhythms from Africa, Brazil, Cuba...
Everyone can come and join us learning play percussions!
An easy and intuitive approach to the specifical and various techniques of the numerous percussion instruments which are provided by our teacher allow also who is not a musician to enjoy playing in group.
We meet in Bologna every Monday from 8 p.m. in Via Romita n° 2.

THE SHOW

But "Afroeira" means also "show": the group can be composed from a maximum of about 40 percussionists, who can play defiling along the streets or standing on a stage, often accompanied by dancers.
We played in a lot of different situations: shows in discos or theatres, parties, carnivals, festivals, inaugurations, meetings...
We also often play with the sextet "Caputo Lindo", a band that counts in its repertory big classicals of Brazilian music joined with songs from great contemporary authors like Djavan, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil..
